Fastbacks' Drum Club
by ? - From Alternative Press.
The Fastbacks return this month with their follow-up to last year's Zucker, entitled Answer the Phone, Dummy. In addition to the participation of Kim Warnick, Kurt Bloch and Lulu Gargiulo, the record, in true Fastbackian style, contains no less than six drummers, including Dan Peters (Mudhoney), Rusty Willoughby and Nate Johnson (Flop), Mike Musburger (The Posies), Jason Finn (Love Battery), and recent tour drummer John Moen. "We just had our 'big intensive meeting' and we still don't know what to think," admits Warnick. "We learned 25 new songs two weeks before going into the studio. Nobody knows what the single is!" The Fastbacks will hit the road the top of next year, but in the meantime, write to Cargo Records and ask them when they're going to put out the MC5 tribute album that features Los Backs doing a ripsaw teardown version of "Ramblin' Rose."
1) When you were being interviewed by AP, what would you have rather been doing at the time?
Kurt Bloch/Fastbacks: "Eating burrotos in the SF Mission district."
2) After I read my story/review in AP, I wanted to ___________ the writer and ___________ the photographer.
Fastbacks: "I wanted to get taken out for a drink by the writer and flown to Disneyland by the photographer."
3) If readers knew the truth about me/my band they would:
Fastbacks: "Feel such sorrow for us they'd buy multiple copies of all the Fastbacks records and buy Kim a new bass cabinet."
4) AP operates out of Cleveland because:
Fastbacks: "It's hard for Pearl Jam to find you to kick your ass."
5) Is there anything you regret telling the AP interviewer?
Fastbacks: "Yeah, we forgot to stress the sympathy part enough, and dwelled on the positive too much."
6) Where do you see your band in nine years? Where do you think AP will be at the time?
Fastbacks: "In nine years we'll be on drummer number 25, we will be really old, and not much else will be different. Maybe we'll be the longest running band in the world."
7) If you would have written the title for your article, how would it have read?
Fastbacks: "Tell All Your Friends to Buy Records by..." or "Here's a Band That We Think You'll Really End Up Liking."
BONUS- If your band got in a fight wtih Pearl Jam, who would win and why?
Fastbacks: "Probably not much of a fight- we'd probably just sit around and reminisce of, you know, the 'good old' days of Seattle, uh, the 'crappy old' days of Seattle rock and when Deranged Drotion moved to Seattle from Montana."
