  • Well, the grand website 'upgrade' I had planned for a November launch never got further than this news page. I have been really busy with other projects, so I have no idea when this might occur. Anyway, not much to report since the last update. The layouts and artwork of the new EP are almost complete, and you should be able to pick it up around the beginning of the year. It's really great!
  • The Fastbacks completed 6 new 'demos' a couple of weeks ago. Two of the songs will actually make an appearance on a special CD at the end of the month. Unfortunately, this CD will only be available to people who come see the Fastbacks at the Crocodile on Dec 27. It's gonna be a helluva show, as the tentative line-up includes: The Fastbacks, The Young Fresh Fellows, Pure Joy, Shuggie, and Huge Spacebird.
  • The Halloween show at the Crocodile was a ton of laughs. The Fastbacks came on the stage dressed as the Supersuckers, complete with Kim donning her best Eddie Spaghetti shades. They started the show with the Supersuckers own 'On the Couch'. Lulu looked especially stunning in her Dan Bolton vest and fake sideburns. Uh, the performance was pretty kick ass too. My personal highlight was a new song called 'Maybe'.
  • The Fastbacks also played a show last week (11/28) at the Sit N' Spin. Lulu was nowhere in sight, so they played a nice little set as a three piece, which included some old chestnuts and some new material. Especially stirring was their own rendition of Elton John's 'Grey Seal'. As the barrage of beer cups flew at Kurt during the show, Rusty Willoughby was egged on to perform some drums on an encore of the classic 'Ramblin' Rose'.
  • That's it for now. I hope to be able to update the sight more regularly, but that may just be a pipe dream. I hope to hear from you soon!
  • Upcoming shows: Dec 5 at the Showbox (Seattle) with The Makers, The Delagunas, and Micro Mini. Dec 27 at the Crocodile Cafe.

  • Greetings from Seattle. It's been awhile since the last update, and while there is nothing new to the site, I have some news on a new Fastbacks release coming to stores early next year. First of all, The Fastbacks have decided to amicably part ways with their record label, Sub Pop. While the Fastbacks have not signed on with any particular label, the new 'EP' will be released on Popllama. It will include 4 new studio tracks and 9 'unlisted' live songs. The logic behind the unlisted live songs is to try to keep the price of the CD at CD5 levels, so that the consumer only has to pay $5-$7 for the recording. The 4 new songs include:

    So Wrong
    Used to Belong
    No Music Played
    Book of Revelation

  • Tentative title of the EP is: Win, Lose, Or Both. Book of Revelation is a cover of a Mr. T Experience song. The 9 live tracks were pulled from 3 different shows during 1997, including the Noise Pop Festival in San Francisco, Bumbershoot in Seattle, and a show at the Crocodile in which they enlisted the assistance of 2 other guitar players and 1 extra drummer! If you can't find the EP in stores near you, I may be selling it through the web site, keep your eyes out.
  • Kurt's been a busy boy producing bands in the last 6 months. Look out for releases by Les Thugs, Pure Joy, Shuggie, and Nashville Pussy. The new Smugglers EP (Buddy Holly Convention, Lookout!) is already out, and Kurt turned the knobs on that baby. Future projects include the Kent 3 and Popdefect.
  • It's par for the course for the rest of the Fastbacks, Kim continues working at Sub Pop, Lulu works behind the lens as a camerawoman, and Mike continues on being Mike.
  • The Fastbacks will be playing at the Crocodile on Halloween, along with Thin Lizzy Seance, a Thin Lizzy tribute courtesy of the members of the Supersuckers. Maybe I'll see you there...

  • Hello again! It's been almost 3 months since I last updated the page, and I have no excuses. I guess part of my absence can be attributed to my extreme laziness, but I think some of it has to do with the fact that there has really been nothing new going on with the Fastbacks. Kurt's been really busy producing bands lately (Pure Joy, The Smugglers, Les Thugs, Shuggie) and so the Fastbacks have gone on hiatus for the summer. It's looks like their next show will not be until Bumbershoot in September. It is my desire to redesign the page sometime before the end of the year, at least it's initial apprearance. Most of it will stay the same, but I plan some minor cosmetic changes to the main page, and some modifications to the navigational abilities of the site.
  • I have added one link to the Links page for the official web site of the Muffs; check it out, it's really great. Also added a 'Guest Appearance' for Motorhoney in the Guest Discography.
  • There's a short and mildly amusing interview with Kim, Kurt, and Mike in the latest issue of Fizz. I'll post it as soon as one of the following happens, 1) I get permission or 2) The issue is no longer available.
  • Last, but definitely not least, I am releasing the results of the Fastbacks Fan Favorites that have been submitted by YOU, the fan, via the mailing list. You can link to it HERE or through the main page.

  • Thanks to everyone who has signed up on the mailing list and submitted their favorite songs. The list is growing, and once I have enough votes I'll post the results. So far only a couple songs have garnered multiple votes. It just goes to show how broad of a fan base the Fastbacks have, as well as the fact that there are so many great Fastbacks songs.
  • I have updated the facts sheet (and other pages which relate back to the facts sheet) to reflect only songs which have been released. It's a long process, considering that if one song is added or removed, it changes everything on the site!
  • Added some new links as well as an updated 'guest appearances' page.

  • Press items added
  • The subject of a mailing list arose in a recent conversation with Kim. In an effort to compile such a list, if you would be interested in being included, please e-mail your name and address and hopefully a mailing will be done before the end of the century. And if you'd like, I'd like to start compiling a list of fans favorite songs, so send a list of your 5 favorite FBX songs and I'll start the process.
  • If you are interested in seeing a specific song sheet, please e-mail your requests and I will see if they can be accomodated.
  • I am also interested in starting a section devoted to the fans. Send me any questions you would like me to ask the band, and if I like 'em, I'll post 'em with answers. Or, if you prefer, just tell me why YOU like the FBX and the best responses will be posted.

  • The Fastbacks have 2 tracks on a Japanese Compilation CD on Sub Pop. Included are 'I Can't Win' (previously only available on a bonus 7" with the New Mansions In Sound vinyl) and 'No Information'. It is entitled 'Paydirt' and has been added to the discography. Other bands on the CD include Sebadoh, The Spinanes, Plexi, Combustible Edison, and more.
  • I added a couple of records to Kurt's production resume. If anyone knows of other records Kurt has produced that I am missing, please e-mail them to me. Thanks!
  • Upcoming Fastbacks show: San Francisco - Noise Pop Festival, Feb 28 at The Bottom of the Hill.
  • If you are interested in purchasing Fastbacks T-Shirts or their last two tour singles (All In Order/Answer the Phone Dummy/Allison & Marionette/AAA), send me an e-mail and I will give you the details. Shirts are $10 ppd, and singles are $3 ppd.
  • Suggestions to improve the site are always welcomed. I answer all e-mail.
