Regarding the live material, Kurt writes: What follows is an audio snapshot album of sorts, for lack of a better description, a few tracks from various shows throughout the year. These were recorded on cassette from the mixing board of the various venues, and aren't intended to be a 'hi-fi' experience - family snapshots as opposed to a formal portrait. "So what have the Fastbacks been up to this year?" A good idea? We'll see. Let us know if we shoud do it again next year.

(tracks 5-9): Recorded August 30, 1997 at the Bumberclub, during a festival in Seattle known as Bumbershoot. Millions of people go to see millions of acts of millions of different styles, and we actually had a really great time. Live sound by Craig Montgomery.
(tracks 10-11): Recorded February 28, 1997 at the Bottom of the Hill, in San Francisco, during the Noise Pop Festival. Now this was a wild time. Not that it usually isn't, but this was a wild time. Ultimately, a good portion of energy expended during the set was directed towards keeping instruments intact (successful); audience members on stage from harming performers (successful), and themselves (unsuccessful). (tracks 12-13): Recorded April 25, 1997 at the Crocodile Cafe, Seattle. Being for the benefit of Estrus records, having lost thier warehouse to fire, and that our illustrious Lulu was not able to attend, we decided to have a fete of our own, lightly titled "The Fastbacks' Big Band" One guitar player out? Replace her with two! Three guitars? Better add another drummer! These selections are from the end of the set, everyone truly trying to make "everything louder than everything else". According to some audience members, a success. Others, an excess.
