As the Fastbacks get older, their songs don't change, but the production is better with each record. "New Mansions In Sound" takes it's place among the best, if not the best, Fastbacks recording. The cover of Montrose's Space Station #5 is a definite must for any fan of ROCK N' ROLL.

Liner read: Produced by Kurt Bloch for the "I would like to do that" Brothers. Jason Finn played drums on "No Information" courtesy The Presidents of the United States of America and Columbia Records. Nate Johnson played drums on "Banner Year" courtesy of his own good-natured self. Rusty Willoughby, Ken Posy, and Hammi all do something on "Is It Familiar?": and e.v. sings harmonoiusly on "Girl's Eyes" by kind permission of Wes C. Addle. Paintings by Tad Hutchison. Photography by Lance Mercer. Drawings by Bill Jacobsen. Art wrassling by Hank Trotter.

The LP version of New Mansions included a bonus 7" 45rpm containing I Can't Win (not on CD), and Girl's Eyes. In Kurt's liners, e.v. is a reference to Eddie Vedder's appearance on the record, and if you listen closely you can hear him asking Kurt to erase his vocal take for $100. There are also whispers of "yeah" and "it's bird time" at other moments on the record. The CD reads, "Let the record tell YOU how it wants to be made. Let the instruments tell YOU how they want to be played."
