Interview by Mike LaVella from Gearhead #3
GH: So, the elusive Tom Hendrickson, the man who was only in The Fastbacks for one show. What's the story?
T: (Very enthusiastically) The way I remember it, I found out that Richard was either leaving the band or wanted to do some other projects so I had a tryout and we practised a few times and it worked out fine.
GH: So what happened?
T: When it came to playing at the Gorilla Gardens downtown, I was pretty nervous and in awe of the whole situation.
GH: What situation?
T: Just being with them, even back then they were pretty famous. I remember keying off the first song without letting everyone know that I was starting, I think I was a little too worried about the gig and my playing and stuff like that. So I don't think that it went as well as it could have and so even though they were really nice about it, I don't think it really would have worked out at the time, I was just too nervous.
GH: That's funny.
T: It was pretty wild, you know 'cause they are all really nice people. I think Lulu is just fantastic, Kim is really nice and Kurt is just a great guy. I still see him around checking out different bands and stuff. I also know his brother, Al Bloch, he's really nice... in fact, the whole Bloch family is really nice.
GH: Thank God you are listed in directory assistance, if you weren't I might never have found you.
T: (Very sincerely) Well THANK YOU for calling!
