Interview by Mike LaVella from Gearhead #3

GH: How did you come to be one of the "Answer the Phone, Dummy" drummers?
J: I think I asked them. As I recall, a bunch of us were sitting around and Mike and Rusty were already going to do it, so me and Dan were asking too. We eventually sold them on the idea of having more drummers than any other band in history at one time.

GH: Speaking of Dan, I saw a Love Battery video last night, and I jumped up to see if it was you or Mike playing drums, and he it was, Dan Peters!
J: That was filmed after I quit but before Mike joined. They were making the video and figured "why not Dan, he's good looking."

GH: Seattle sure is incestuous.
J: It's small

GH: Your first band was?
J: I was in a zillion nobody bands, the first band you heard of was probably Skin Yard, I was their third drummer.

GH: Do you remember the first time you ever saw the Fastbacks? Are you an old fan?
J: I was a very young fan at the time. It was at The Metropolis in either '82 or '83, and I stared at Lulu the whole time and she stuck her tongue out at me toward the end of the set.

GH: That's funny.
J: I wasn't like hitting on her or anything, but I was quite smitten. So she stuck her tongue out at me and I got scared and went to the back of the room. God, I was probably 15 or something...
