The Saturnalian Sling (From the Subpop Christmas Card, 1994)
1 1/2 oz. Madeira
1 1/2 oz Bourbon
1 1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz Tuaca
1 T. Brown Sugar
4 oz Water
2 dashes Bitters
1 Whole Cardamom Seed
1 Stick Cinnamon
2 Whole Cloves
1 Slice Lemon
1 Large Sliced Orange Peel
Heat the Madeira, Bourbon, Vermoth, Tuaca, Brown Sugar, Water and Bitters in a small saucean until hot but not boiling. Place the Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves and Lemon Slice in a mug and fill with the hot hooch. Above the mug, twist the orange peel above an open flame so that the citrus oil ignites and burnt oil settles on the surface of the drink.
Aaron here, guesting at the bar. I just spent a couple of weeks in bonny Scotland, and was turned on to the pleasures of single-malt scotch. Pricey stuff, but worth it. Each one is different; my favorite is Talisker's, distilled on the Isle of Skye and plenty powerful. Glenmorangie is also good stuff. Blends are fine, but... the good stuff is the good stuff.
